DOVEALEEN WASDIN
Dovealeen Wasdin, a native of Rabun and resident of Bay Minette, died
Wednesday at a nursing home. She was 82.
Mrs. Wasdin was a retired seamstress from Mannor Slacks.
She is survived by her husband Hector K. Wasdin of Bay Minette; one
daughter, Glenda Kay Milam of Electic; three sons, George J. Wasdin of
Luling, La., Glenn F. Wasdin of Bay Minette and Ronald C. Wasdin of Mobile;
two sisters, Miriam Allen and Annie Godwin, both of Bay Minette; 13 grandchildren;
26 grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Norris Funeral Home with the
Rev. Byron Dekle officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.
Frances B. Fisher
Frances B. Fisher, a native of Honeygrove, Texas, and a resident of
Mobile, died Saturday at her residence. She was 87.
Mrs. Fisher was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church and a
retired civil servant in the U.S. Air Force.
She is survived by one son, Jerry L. Carl Sr. of Mobile; 4 grandchildren,
10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mobile Memorial
Gardens Funeral Home, with visitation two hours before. Interment will
be in Mobile Memorial Gardens.
Thomas C. Huckabee
Col. Thomas Clark Huckabee, a native of Uniontown and a resident of
Mobile, died Saturday at a local health care facility.
Huckabee was a member and deacon at Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.
He was a teacher and coach at Murphy High School, Pensacola High School
and Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, Miss. He served as a coach,
teacher, administrator and superintendent for 29 years at University Military
School.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Chambers Huckabee of Mobile; one daughter,
Martha Anne Huckabee Foster of Franklin, La., and Daphne; one son, Thomas
Cooper Huckabee of Los Angeles; and two sisters, Nann Huckabee Williams
of Mobile and Martha Carolyn Huckabee of Uniontown, Ala.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the fellowship
hall of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will follow
in the church sanctuary at 11 a.m. A private interment will be held in
Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the UMS-Wright
Building Fund, Spring Hill Presbyterian Church or a favorite charity. Radney
Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Dolores Fell Kercher
Dolores Fell Kercher, a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, died
Saturday at a local hospital. She was 76.
Mrs. Kercher was a retired from federal civil service with 40 years
total service in personnel. She served 19 years in the U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers. She was also a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles F. Kercher of Mobile; one daughter,
Diane K. McInnis of Mobile; one sister, Annie Laurie Bamford of Fairhope;
and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Pine Crest Funeral
Home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lukes's Episcopal

Mack McKinley Rivers
Mack McKinley Rivers, a native of Mobile County and resident of Citronelle,
died Saturday at a local hospital.
He was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and worked as a logger
in the timber industry.
His survivors include five sons, George C. Farmer, Ensley J. Farmer,
Michael Lavon River, Jeremy Lathan Farmer, all of Citronelle, and Wallace
McKinley Rivers of Semmes; seven daughters, Betty Byrd, Lillie Bell Sullivan,
Ellen Dianne McDaniel, all of Citronelle, Hazel Weaver, Shirley Farmer
and Judy Farmer, all of Mount Vernon, and Maeola Allen of Lucedale, Miss.;
four brothers, Sancer Rivers, Clifford Rivers, Ed Rivers and Joe Rivers,
all of Mount Vernon; six sisters, Esther Byrd and Annie Smith of Citronelle,
and Cranie Lofton, Ola Sullivan, Maggie James and Mary Alice Byrd, all
of Mount Vernon; 31 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. today at St. Theresa Catholic
Church in Mount Vernon. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at
10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will take place in Byrd Cemetery
in Mount Vernon. Arrangements by Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.
L. W. Register
L. W. Register, a native of Bratt, Fla., and resident of Fort Morgan,
died Saturday. He was 69.
He was a retiree of International Paper Company, a Master Mason and
member of the Greeno Masonic Lodge No. 598.
His survivors include his wife, Bettie Whisenhant Register of Ft. Morgan;
five daughters, Patricia Register Goode and Vickie Register Hughes, both
of Melbourne, Fla., Vicki Hays Stanley of Daphne, Shari Register Norman
of Birmingham and Michelle Register Scott of Mobile; three sisters, Syble
Register Suermann, Jackie Register Cooper, and Shelby Register Carrigan,
all of Huntsville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Pine Crest Funeral
Home. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Crest

Robert Lee Parnell
Robert Lee Parnell, a native of Seaboard and resident of Tibbie, died
at his residence on Sunday. He was 67.
He was a veteran on the Korean Conflict and retired from Brown and Root
at the Ciba Geigy Plant in McIntosh. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
His survivors include one son, Garry Parnell of Tibbie; three daughters,
Jacqueline Parnell, Robin Weaver and Marikim Carpenter, all of Tibbie;
three brothers, Bruce Parnell of Tibbie, Wilbert Parnell of Mobile and
Tillman Parnell of Millry; six sisters, Willie Mae Howard of Tibbie, Annie
Bell Richardson of Seaboard, Leona Long of Jackson, Sue Odom of Deer Park,
Ann Howard of Semmes and Cecilia Wilson of New Orleans, La.; one half brother,
Albert W. Parnell of Tibbie; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Parnell home in Tibbie.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the same location. Burial
will take place in the Robert Lee Parnell Memorial Cemetery in Tibbie.

ANNIE LOUISE VAN LIEROP
BLOUNTSTOWN, Fla. - Annie Louise Van Lierop, a native of Pineville,
La., and a resident of Blountstown, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at
her residence.
She was 68 years old.
Mrs. Van Lierop was a member of the Lake Mystic Baptist Church in Bristol,
Fla., and served as church treasurer. She sang in the choir and was in
the Campus Crusade for Christ. She was also active in the Gideons Society
and the Prison Ministry.
Mrs. Van Lierop is survived by her husband, Carlton Van Lierop of Blountstown;
two sons, Ronnie Van Lierop and Dwight Van Lierop of Blountstown; a daughter,
Carla Hand of Blountstown; a brother, Walter Smith of Summerdale; two sisters,
Jeanette Mize of Bossier City, La., and Evelyn Hess of Deatsville, Ala.;
and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Lake Mystic Baptist Church. She
was buried in Pine Memorial Cemetery in Blountstown.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Gideons
Society.

JAMES 'J.I' COOPER
SILVERHILL - James "J.I" Cooper, a native of McGhee, Miss., and a resident
of Silverhill, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998. He was 78.
Cooper is survived by his wife, Estelle Cooper of Silverhill; a daughter,
Peggy Harrell of Prattville; a son, James "Jimmy" Cooper of Silverhill;
five sisters, Lois Styron of Brandon, Miss., Betty Andre of Banner Elk,
N.C., Laverne Garner of Bay Minette, and Louise McWilliams and Katie Summerlin,
both of Jackson, Miss.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the
Rev. Rick Barnhart officiating. Burial will be in the Silverhill Cemetery.

HELEN KRAMPE
FOLEY - Helen Krampe, a resident of Foley, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998,
at Mercy Medical Center.
She is survived by her niece, Mary Eicher of Foley.
Funeral services will be held in Cincinnati at a later date.

CLYDE JOSEPH THOMPSON
FAIRHOPE - Clyde Joseph Thompson died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Mercy
Medical in Daphne. Thompson, 83, was a resident of Fairhope. He was a retired
merchant seaman with the Merchant Marines and was also a veteran of World
War II, having served with the U.S. Coast Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Pope Thompson of Fairhope; a son,
Joseph Michael Thompson of Fairhope; two brothers, Fred A. Thompson of
Foley and Phillip Thompson of New Orleans, La.; and his grandson, Joseph
Michael Thompson Jr. of Fairhope.
Graveside services were held Monday at Pine Level Primitive Baptist
Cemetery in Atmore. The Rev. Burl Phillips officiated. Funeral arrangements
were by Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.
GLADYS INEZ SMITH
BAY MINETTE - Gladys Inez Smith died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at Oakwood
nursing home. Mrs. Smith, 86, was a resident of Bay Minette.
She is survived by her husband, Joel Myles Smith of Bay Minette; two
sons, Otis Smith of Spanish Fort and Larry Smith of Halls Fork; four daughters,
Nellree Phillips of Pensacola, Shelba Lauritzen and Betty Roberson, both
of Deer Park, Texas, and Patsy Robertson of Bay Minette; her sister, Pauline
Hathcock of Mobile; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 10 a.m. at Norris Funeral Home in Bay Minette.
The Rev. George Sedberry and Victor White will officiate and burial follows
at Perdido Baptist Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Norris Funeral

Samuel L. Irby
MOUNT VERNON - Samuel Lee "Sam" Irby, a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam
War, died Sunday in an accident near Mount Vernon. He was 52.
A native of Calvert, Ala., Irby resided in Mount Vernon, where he was
a member of Williams Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was a 1964 graduate
of Rosa A. Lott High School in Citronelle.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Irby of Mount Vernon; one son, Samuel
Irby Chapman of Mount Vernon; two stepdaughters, Jandolin Chapman and Samika
Chapman, both of Mount Vernon; his mother, Gladys Irby of Mount Vernon;
and seven siblings, Theodore Irby of Los Angeles, Taylor Irby of Inglewood,
Calif., Doretha Osborne of Mount Vernon, Geraldine Irby of Mobile, Alvin
Irby of St. Paul, Minn., Fredgenia Hill of Dallas, and Isaac Irby Jr. of
Brandon, Miss.
Viewing will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at Christian Benevolent Funeral
Home. Viewing will also be after 9 a.m. Thursday at Williams Chapel Missionary
Baptist Church, U.S. 43 in Mount Vernon, with visitation from 10 a.m. until
the 11 a.m. services. Interment will be in Roper Cemetery.
Albert Lankster Jr.
Albert C. Lankster Jr. , a former welder with Ingalls Shipbuilding,
died Sunday in Mobile. He was 46.
Lankster, a lifelong Mobilian, was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include three sisters, Sayinka Jackson of Mobile, Lashandal
Pettway of Knoxville, Tenn., and Michelle Lankster of Gaston, Texas; and
two brothers, Curtis Lankster and Richard Lankster, both of Mobile.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Reese Funeral Home
in Prichard, with graveside services at 12:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery
in Biloxi.
Mary M. Wittner
Mary Margaret Wittner, a member of Power of God Worship Center, died
Monday in a local hospital.
Mrs. Wittner, a native of Silas, Ala., was a longtime resident of Mobile.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Reeves and Mildred Ferrouillat,
both of Mobile, and Margaret Cargill of Atlanta; three sons, Luther Lane,
Carl Wittner and Mike Wittner, all of Mobile; her brothers and sisters;
18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Radney Funeral Home
on Dauphin Street, where services are set for 10 a.m. Friday. Interment
will be in Spring Hill Memorial Gardens.
Shelby J. Atkins
OLD SALEM - Shelby Jean Atkins, a licensed practical nurse, died Tuesday
in an area hospital. She was 59.
Mrs. Atkins, a lifelong Monroe County resident, lived in Old Salem,
where she was a member of Old Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Clara McLaurin of Monroeville, Ala.; her
husband, Charles Atkins of Old Salem; one son, Ray Atkins of Old Salem;
three brothers, Franklin McLaurin of Monroeville, Paul McLaurin of Excel,
Ala., and Levoy McLaurin of Salem, Ala.; two sisters, Maxine Gilmore of
Ashford, Ala., and Linda Greene of Repton, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home in Monroeville,
with interment in Old Salem Cemetery.

Hattie M. Rivers
McINTOSH - Hattie Mildred Rivers, a homemaker who attended Rivers Baptist
Church of McIntosh, died Monday in a Mobile hospital. She was 63.
Ms. Rivers, a native of Sims Chapel, Ala., resided in McIntosh.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy Rivers and Terry Rivers, both of McIntosh;
six daughters, Marilyn Reed, Willa Mae Bass, Janice Snow and Evelyn Weaver,
all of McIntosh, Catherine Shewmake of Jackson, Ala., and Pauline Rivers
Pennartz of Lake Charles, La.; three brothers, Percy Rivers of McIntosh,
Gene Rivers of Eight Mile and Willie Rivers of Citronelle; one sister,
Lutisha Reed of McIntosh; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at Freeman Funeral Home in
Citronelle. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Rivers Baptist Church,
with interment in Rivers Cemetery in McIntosh.
Charlotte Ann Allen
FAIRHOPE - Memorial services for Charlotte Ann Allen will be held at
6:30 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Wolfe Funeral Home in Fairhope. Mrs.
Allen, 57, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 p.m. until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, James M. Allen of Fairhope, and
one son, Darryl W. Allen of Marietta, Ga.

Lillie B. Bryan
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Lillie Bell Bryan, a former dormitory supervisor at
the Alabama School for the Deaf, died Friday in a Memphis hospital at the
age of 99.
Mrs. Bryan, a native of Oglethorpe, Ga., and resident of Memphis, formerly
lived in Satsuma.
Survivors include her stepdaughter, Paula Wyatt of Shelby, N.C.; two
grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Radney Funeral Home in Saraland,
with visitation from noon until the services. Interment will be in Forest
Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Milner W. Dent
FAIRHOPE - Milner W. Dent, a native and resident of Fairhope, died Monday,
Aug. 10, 1998, at his residence. He was 76 years old.
Dent was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, American Legion Post
199, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5660, Elks Club and the Fairhope Yacht
Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Mickey Pike of Woodland Hills, Calif.;
six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bayview Funeral Home
in Fairhope. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday
from Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American
Cancer Society.
